Students moving a casualty to a fixed-wing aircraft during a course exercise

02  ·  Professional education

Education shaped by the field. Built to change it.

RES education is developed by people who helped define prolonged field care, refined through global delivery, and taught by operational clinicians, physicians, and specialty instructors.

01

Flagship programs

A portfolio, not a course list.

Individual courses solve specific readiness requirements. Together they form a progression from immediate casualty care, through prolonged management, into advanced clinical practice and team execution.

DARK+WOODS mark

Special Operations Medicine

Team-centric medical training covering TCCC, PCC, and irregular warfare medical critical tasks against JTS PFC Clinical Practice Guidelines. Medic and non-medic curricula run simultaneously and converge in a tailorable full mission profile exercise. Delivered at the RES MERC with SOF physician mentors and specialty instructors.

PECC mark

Prolonged Evacuation Casualty Care

Translates prolonged casualty care doctrine into executable capability through expert-guided labs, clinical decision-making, and sustained casualty management scenarios. Days one to three are didactics, practicals, and hands-on labs. Day four is a full mission profile field exercise with trained role players and patient-worn task trainers.

02

Grindstone advanced medic modules

Focused clinical intensives for experienced providers.

Each module runs as a standalone one to two day specialty lab, or combines into a structured advanced medic course.

Grindstone mark

Concepts in mechanical ventilation

Device-agnostic ventilator training for the prehospital and prolonged care environment. Respiratory physiology, waveform interpretation, ventilator-patient interaction, and austere troubleshooting. Understanding over memorization. Compatible with SAVE II, Sparrow, and similar platforms.

Whole blood and transfusion systems

Collection, storage, logistics, and administration, with the decision-making that resource-limited environments demand. Monitoring, complication management, and field-expedient damage control resuscitation.

Operational ultrasound

Applied point-of-care ultrasound across eFAST, lung, and vascular access. Image acquisition and interpretation integrated into real-time patient assessment rather than demonstrated as a standalone skill.

Advanced pharmacology

Clinical reasoning-focused pharmacology for operational providers. Medication selection and prioritization, dosing under constraint, and prolonged care considerations where conventional support is unavailable.

05

Carolina Medic

A one to two week proctored trauma rotation at UNC's Level 1 trauma center through the Carolina Medic program, UNC's military-civilian partnership. The capstone of the Grindstone progression, layering real patient care onto module-based training.

03

Sustainment and support

Keeping capability current, and building the environment to test it.

Surgical teams

Forward surgical team training

Team training for forward surgical capability, where surgery, anesthesia, and nursing have to function as one team under resource constraint and prolonged evacuation. Built around scenario-driven simulation and team performance rather than discipline-specific instruction, with live tissue and cadaver lab where the requirement calls for it.

  • Surgery, anesthesia and nursing trained as one team
  • Austere surgical skills and live tissue
  • Cadaver lab capability

Training support

Exercise support and custom training

Full-spectrum medical training support for unit-led exercises and tailored requirements. Professional moulage, trained medical role players, and embedded instructor support that raises realism and takes planning burden off unit cadre. For higher-fidelity requirements, RES designs and executes full mission profile exercises integrating sustained casualty management across extended timelines and multiple movement platforms.

  • Professional moulage and trained medical role players
  • Embedded instructor support for unit-led exercises
  • Scalable from one scenario lane to a multi-day FMP

The RES knowledge loop

Every course makes the next course better.

01

Global delivery

SOF, conventional, government, and civilian teams expose the real problems.

02

Educate and observe

Training creates a structured environment to identify gaps and capture feedback.

03

Integrate and validate

Curricula, devices, techniques, and research questions are tested against operational reality.

04

Disseminate

Lessons move back to the community through RES, PFCare.org, conferences, publications, and partner networks.
